For the Andrews family.

Hi there,

This month’s piece is in G major.

Thanks for reading Fog Chaser! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

For those of you interested in music theory, you’ll hear some modal interchange in this song (i.e., chords borrowed from a different key). I borrowed an Ebmaj7 chord from the song key’s parallel minor (G minor) which provides something a little unexpected at around the 1:30 mark. For those of you not interested in music theory, I hope you skipped all that.

I took the photo with a digital camera in Lausanne, Switzerland, from the shore of Lake Geneva. The sun was just setting as these rowers made their way across the lake, and I was lucky enough to witness this simple, peaceful moment.

I invite you to sit with this photo and song and, if you can, make them a small part of your morning ritual. If you feel like it, let me know what you think in the comments.

Thank you for being here.

After the summer's yield, Lord, it is time
to let your shadow lengthen on the sundials
and in the pastures let the rough winds fly.

As for the final fruits, coax them to roundness.
Direct on them two days of warmer light
to hale them golden toward their term, and harry
the last few drops of sweetness through the wine.

Whoever's homeless now, will build no shelter;
who lives alone will live indefinitely so,
waking up to read a little, draft long letters,
and, along the city's avenues,
fitfully wander, when the wild leaves loosen.
